Dear Diaspora Members and Friends of Jamaica,
In 1923, Jamaica’s first National Hero, the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, was charged with mail fraud in an Atlanta court. Since then, there have been numerous efforts to exonerate Jamaica’s revered hero, but to no avail.
Bearing in mind Jamaica’s upcoming 60th Anniversary of Independence, there is a renewed global push to exonerate Mr. Garvey. In this connection, I am sharing an initiative dedicated to gathering 100,000 signatures to request an official response from the White House and President Biden for a posthumous exoneration of Marcus Garvey.
The collection of signatures will commence on 1st February 2022, in line with Black History Month, and will continue for a 30-day period, ending on 2nd March 2022. In light of the significance and timeliness of this activity, the Embassy has committed its support and is seeking your assistance in supporting and promoting this cause. Further information can be found on the flyer below, as well as on the justice4garvey.org website.
We look forward to your support and encourage you to share this noble initiative.
Kind regards,
